Seattle Pride Grant Recipients
Jan 12, 2021 | Seattle Pride
Seattle Pride announced recipients of its first round of 2021 community grants and sponsorships, which it provides twice annually in support of queer-serving organizations.
The organizations receiving grants include C5 Youth Foundation ($5,000), Gay City ($2,000), and Real Rent Duwamish ($2,500). The Duwamish Cultural Center received $5,000 in sponsorship funds providing nearly $15,000 in total to these four nonprofits.
“Many of these organizations providing essential services to the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond require extra support during this time of great need,” said Seattle Pride Executive Director Krystal Marx. “We are responsible for uplifting our queer community and we want these grants to do just that.”
Each year Seattle Pride awards grants to charitable organizations which support the local LGBTQIA+ community. This year the organization plans to award $75,000 in grants, totaling nearly $160,000 since 2017.

C5 Youth Foundation ($5,000)
Quote by Miguel Duncan-Galvez Bravo, Director of Development, C5 Youth Foundation of Southern California
We are very grateful for the support of Seattle Pride. As an organization, our mission is to change the odds for high-potential teens from under-resourced communities by inspiring them to pursue personal success, while preparing them for leadership roles in school, college, work and their communities. The grant provided to us by Seattle Pride will allow us to conduct staff training from experts in the LGBTQIA+ community so we can apply what we learn and become more intentional with our services for our LGBTQIA+ youth and the various intersectionalities that form our families.
Our goal is to expose our students to as many universities throughout the US as possible. Washington has some of the best colleges in the country and we want our students to explore options beyond their hometowns. Our organization will be hosting a college tour in partnership with Seattle University and we hope to do the same with the University of Washington in the future.
Gay City ($2,000)
Quote by Fred Swanson, Executive Director, Gay City
This grant from Seattle Pride will support the Gay City Arts Festival, which will be hosted virtually in 2021. This festival will pair developing artists with established artist mentors through a workshop series culminating in an arts festival highlighting each artist’s work. Art is the voice, spirit, and conscience of every community and is a vital tool for community reflection, dialogue, and pride. Seattle Pride's support will help us uplift the voices of queer and trans artists in the middle of a pandemic that has caused unimaginable upheaval to the arts community. We're grateful for their support!
Real Rent Duwamish ($2,500 - annually)
Quote by Jolene Haas, Director, Real Rent Duwamish
The funds will enable us to secure resources to produce and direct the virtual Duwamish Annual Gala and Native Art Auction, the proceeds of which benefit the operations of the Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center for the coming year, as well as our tribal COVID-19 Relief Fund which supports tribal members who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

These funds will help with sponsoring our Duwamish Annual Gala and Native Art auction, which we had to move to a virtual event this year due to COVID-19. The funds will enable us to secure resources to produce and direct the virtual gala, the proceeds of which benefit the operations of the Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center (DLCC) for the coming year as well as our tribal COVID-19 Relief Fund that supports tribal members who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
