A Public Safety Evolution for Seattle Pride Month Events

Jun 13, 2024 | Seattle Pride

With a redoubled focus on public safety at its major events, Seattle Pride is thrilled to have partnered with esteemed festival and live events producer Jon Stone, the principal at Jon Stone Consulting LLC, in the advancement of planning and implementation for all aspects of public safety for Pride in the Park and the Pride Parade. A rare Seattle native, Jon has worked in the festivals and events space in Seattle and beyond for over thirty years, from the smallest community events to managing and producing the largest festivals, concerts, and civic events our region has ever known. He has to his credit an astonishing 3500+ major events and performances of virtually all types and sizes. He brings to the table a producers-level understanding of how events function and serve communities, along with deep expertise in all aspects of leadership, production, operations, and public safety.

“Public gathering has been a common thread throughout my life and work experience.” says Stone. “Like most people in the live events industry I kind of stumbled into the field by accident, and along my journey one day I had a profound experience that formed my belief that human beings have a fundamental need to come together from time to time, physically, in common cause. It’s as important as any other critical human need. That said, as time goes forward the reality of what it takes to facilitate gatherings, especially mass gatherings, is only becoming more complex. I consider it my highest and best purpose to leverage my uncommon background to help others conceptualize, strategize, and produce the most vibrant and safe gatherings possible.”

Seattle Pride executive Director Patti Hearn commented “The Seattle Pride Parade is one of the largest community gatherings in the region, and at fifty years old it is still growing! It’s important that we as organizers make certain our thinking and planning are not only keeping abreast of that growth but getting ahead of it where we can. To that end, having the breadth and depth of Jon’s perspective as a resource for our team has yielded immediate insights across virtually every aspect of our planning.”

Most recently, Jon’s firm has developed the public safety plan for Seattle’s new Waterfront Park, helped a NW tribal government develop its own internal event producing capacities, and produced major EDM festivals at Lumen Field, Tacoma Dome, and The Gorge. He also produces the One Hour To Doors podcast focusing on the business and soul of the festivals and events industry.
