"Today, the Supreme Court of the United States expressly took away a constitutional right from the American people that it had already recognized," President Biden said. "They didn't limit it. They simply took away."

Our hearts are broken at today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, and losing the right for cisgender women, our trans siblings, nonbinary folks, and all birthing people to make informed decisions about their bodies – a right that they have had for nearly 50 years.

In a separate opinion, Justice Thomas called on the Court to revisit marriage equality – putting us all on notice that the rights we’ve fought so hard for are also at risk. The Seattle Pride Parade has always been about coming together to march in solidarity for our rights – and this weekend it is more important than ever that we make our voices heard.

These are not solely women’s or LGBTQIA+ issues, but they are human rights issues. Today’s decision is a travesty which will no doubt have ripple effects – and the LGBTQIA+ community needs progressive, protective action NOW.
